Thermolac™ | Environmentally Friendly Weather-Resistant Acrylic Vehicle
Product Description
Thermolac™ is an acrylic polymer used as a binder in inks and paints. A range of products is available, meeting customers' needs for properties such as weather resistance, stain resistance, chemical resistance, quick drying, etc. We also accommodate non-toluene handling that is considerate of the environment.
Since the launch of Thermolac™ as a vehicle for paints for plastics in 1964, it has been widely used not only as a vehicle for paint but also for inks and as a binder for various overcoats. This wide range of uses leverages Thermolac™'s excellent acrylic resin properties, including weather resistance, stain resistance, chemical resistance, and quick drying characteristics.
Characteristics provided by Thermolac™
- Adhesion to substrates
- High hardenability
- Flexibility
- Quick drying
- Weather resistance
- Anti-blocking
- Plasticizer resistance
- Hygroscopicity resistance
- Chemical resistance
Features
- Acrylic polymer for paints and inks with good adhesion to plastics, packaging materials, etc.
- Transparent liquid with excellent dispersibility
- Non-toluene handling
- Two types are available depending on the purpose
Thermoplastic Type
The thermoplastic type is a solvent-based vehicle that takes advantage of the quick-drying properties of acrylic resins.
This type offers the advantages of quick drying, adhesiveness to plastics, and pigment dispersibility, with a number of varieties available to match different substrates.
It also offers excellent dispersibility of various pigments, and adheres well to plastic substrates such as PET, PVC, and polystyrene, making it widely used as a vehicle for gravure inks.
Polyol Type
In combination with various polyisocyanates, the polyol type produces an acrylic urethane coating film with physical properties superior to those of ordinary acrylics.
It is widely used not only for plastic substrates but also as an overcoating material for wood, plywood, and siding materials.
Acrylated-alkyd types and one-liquid hardening types are also included in the line-up.
Applications
- Vehicle for inks used in shrink films for packaging materials such as beverage containers and lunch boxes
- Overcoat binders for decorative plywood, siding materials, etc.
- Vehicles for various types of paint
- Overcoat binders for various plastic films
