SK Dyne™ | Pressure-Sensitive Adhesives for Decorative Films

Product Description

Pressure-sensitive adhesives for decorative films are used for decorating and protecting industrial products, including interior and exterior wrapping for automobiles. They are suitable for films and adherends containing plasticizers, such as PVC, and can also be used in areas where there may be exposure to gasoline.
Furthermore, these adhesives are non-toluene types, which are considerate of the environment.
They possess high heat resistance and durability, and we offer a variety of options tailored to the materials being bonded. Please feel free to contact us for more details.

Decorative Film and Car Wrapping Applications

Usage Examples

Blocks plasticizer bleed, leaving no adhesive residue.
With conventional adhesives, plasticizers can migrate into the adhesive layer, causing residue. SK Dyne™ 1310DT is designed to resist the migration of plasticizers and to not lose its physical properties even if migration occurs, resulting in no residue.
Even if a decorative film that has been applied gets scratched and its appearance is compromised, the film can be easily removed without the need for cleaning, allowing for a new decorative film to be applied.

What is Decorative Film?

Applying high-performance films onto various products allows for enhanced product design and added functionality.
Approximately 30% of the CO2 emissions in the automobile manufacturing process are supposedly attributed to the painting process, which involves repeated painting and drying.
A shift from traditional painting (wet process) to applying films (dry process) for car exteriors is expected to reduce this environmental impact.
The performance requirements for decorative films include:
(Film materials: PMMA, ABS, PVC, PC, PP, etc.)

  • Design (appearance)
  • Texture (feel)
  • Conformability (stretchability and adaptation to uneven shapes)
  • Durability (resistance to heat, humidity, weather, and damage)

Pressure-sensitive adhesives used with these films need to facilitate easy application of films featuring various designs and functions and ensure that they do not peel off over time.
The performance requirements for pressure-sensitive adhesives include:

  • Minimal tackiness, ensuring good workability during application
  • No lifting or peeling over time
  • Ability to stretch and conform to different shapes
  • No foaming at high temperatures
  • High adhesion to substrates

Composition of Decorative Films for Out-Mold Decoration (OMD)

Composition of decorative films for Out-Mold Decoration (OMD)

Decorative films for out-mold decoration (OMD) comprise a high-transparency film with a printed design layer and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.
Depending on the requirements, a hard coat layer may be added on top, and a support layer (backer layer) may be placed between the design and pressure-sensitive adhesive layers.

Adhesive for OMD

Adhesive for OMD

Pressure-sensitive adhesives applied to the interior and exterior of automobiles require the following performance characteristics:

  • Low tack and easy workability
  • High durability after application (adhesive does not peel off over long periods both indoors and outdoors)

In particular, with out-mold decoration (OMD), there is an issue where the film may peel off due to the force of the film attempting to shrink back when stretched and applied to a surface.
To address this issue, there is a range of adhesives available that demonstrate high durability against the shrinking stress of the film.

We also offer a variety of other types of pressure-sensitive adhesives in addition to the products listed above.
We provide suggestions based on customers' requests and intended applications. We look forward to hearing from you.
